SENIOR MEN’S CURLING
Who is it for?
The Senior Men’s section offers daytime curling for Senior Men (age 50+) but is also open to men who are not necessarily seniors but wish to join us for daytime curling. Such individuals would be welcome to participate in Senior Men’s weekly curling as well as any ‘in-house’ bonspiels but would not be eligible for interclub play or any ‘open’ spiels involving members from other clubs.
What are the curling options?
There are 3 curling options available to members of the Senior Men’s section:
1. Tag Draw curling
2. Team Entry curling
3. Interclub curling
Contact: David Prescott 705-741-6134 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Format: Open to all members who wish to curl during the day. Tag curling is available for 2 hours, three times per week:
Mondays @ 10:00 a.m.
Wednesdays @ 10:30 a.m.
Fridays @ 10:30 a.m.
Curlers join the tag draw as individuals. They are rated for position (skip, vice, second, lead) based on their experience and performance. New teams are made up for each tag draw from the pool of members present on that day.
Because this is basically ‘pick-up’curling, there is no need to arrange a spare if you are not available. It is also a great way to meet and play with a lot of different curling members.

Format: Curlers join the ‘Team Entry’ league as a team. If you are interested in team curling but are not currently part of a team will will try to find a spot for you.
Team entry curling takes place on Monday afternoons with games at either 12:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. Typically the teams are divided into 3 subgroups (A, B and C) to promote competition between teams of relatively similar performance. There are 3 schedules (about 6 weeks long) and a couple of teams move up or down in the subgroups based on their track record. The total points in the first 3 schedules determines positions for the final championship schedule at the end of the season.
Because you are curling on a team, you are expected to arrange for a spare if you cannot attend a given game. Some teams have even chosen to have 5 players to facilitate getting spares, particularly when many members take winter vacations.

Format: Interclub curling consists of league play and bonspiels in 10 local area clubs. In league play, the clubs curl each other twice during the season, once at home and once away. On each schedule date, three teams from one club play three teams from another. Results are tracked and a trophy awarded to the winning club at the end of the year. Each club also hosts a bonspiel specifically for the Interclub teams.
To play in Interclub, you must sign up as a team at the beginning of the year and play both league games and bonspiels as scheduled. The members of the team can be from either the Senior Men’s Tag Team or from the Senior Men’s Team Entry. The number of games that each team plays will vary depending on how many teams sign up. Typically, 10 to 15 teams sign up from our club which results in about 3 or 4 league games and 1 or 2 bonspiels for each team.
Cost to play in the Interclub league is extra but relatively small – $3.00 per player per game played. It covers coffee and some snacks after the game. The cost to play in Interclub bonspiels is determined by each of the host clubs – it’s usually around $120.00 per team.
While the competition is keen, the primary objective is social. It provides an opportunity to meet and curl against some different people in other local area clubs.
